2000 Porsche Boxster S - Champ's Choice
Wagner framed his GT3 rotors with TechArt's massive five-spoke Formula GT wheels, 8.5x18 up front and 10.5x18 in the rear. Painted black to match the car's color scheme, the rims were shod with Yokohama AVS Sport rubber, 235/40ZR18 and 275/35ZR18, front and rear.
With the race-inspired equipment under its skin, Wagner added a touch of boldness to the S by having the factory GT3 nose and side skirts installed by Premier Motorsports. The fabrication and paint shop, which primarily focuses on Ferraris and other top-dollar exotics, had to stretch the side skirts over three inches to conform to the Boxster S's longer wheelbase.
Premier's technicians then fabricated special screens for the spoiler's air inlets, darkened the rear taillight lenses, and upgraded the lighting system to Litronic headlamps with white directional indicators.
For the cockpit, the Porsche champion selected a bit more comfort than his company car ever supplied. A pair of deluxe black leather GT3 seats from Schatz Motorsports augmented the car's already plush black and gray interior.
The Boxster S sported another component Wagner's racers never offered, an eight-channel sound system from Paris Audio. The system intensified the Porsche factory stereo with a trunk-mounted equalizer powering a series of tweeters, woofers and midrange speakers concealed throughout the cockpit, including a custom-built floor enclosure for a set of subwoofers.
For a man who has taken Porsche's ultimate 911s into victory lane time and time again, the 996-powered Boxster S is undeniably the perfect set of wheels. "There's no question," the champion said of the car. "It has everything. Handling, horsepower, stopping power and looks. Simply everything." And to think, some people actually dread taking their work home.
