RPM X 1000DYNORUN .004Max Power=214.3Max Torque=192.2

Baseline
Peak Wheel-hp: 214.3 @ 6700 rpmPeak Wheel-torque (lb-ft): 192.2 @ 4100 rpm

Pros
*Consistent torque throughout rev range makes for a great all-round performance machine.
*High-class transmission with positive shifting. Six ratios keep the engine in the powerband during spirited driving, while also allowing for decent fuel consumption when on the highway.
*Active steering is not only useful for low-speed maneuvering, it also provides good feedback during normal driving.

Cons
*Optimized from the factory, so not much power left for tuners to wring out.
*Sensitive to poor fuel and environmental changes.

Notes
Vehicle was tested using Texaco 91-octane, the highest-grade fuel available at a traditional filling station. Tested at Eurosport Accessories, Anaheim, California, on a Dynojet chassis dynamometer. Ambient temperature was between 65 and 72 degrees F.

AFE Powerflow Intake Kit
Gains:
Peak Wheel-hp: 214.9
Peak Wheel-torque (lb-ft): 195.2

Pros
*Measurable torque gain from 2200 to 5000 rpm.
*Excellent build quality.
*Filter will support substantially more horsepower from further modifications.
*Incredible induction sound.

Cons
*Price is tough to justify if no further modifications are planned.
*May be hard for some owners to discern power gains.

Parts
Airbox, reusable filter, filter mounting ring, intake pipe with MAF housing.
Price: $396
Installation time: Less than one hour

Notes
This is a well-made component that adds a great sound. The performance gain, while not huge, represents a solid bump throughout the rev range. If the owner is considering more in-depth modifications, this filter will support far more flow.

Supersprint Performance Muffler/Resonator (Cat-Back) Exhaust
Loss as tested with intake and exhaustPeak Wheel-hp: 207.7Peak Wheel-torque (lb-ft): 188.2

Pros
*Improved sound quality.
*All-stainless steel construction means a lifetime of service.
*80mm polished tips add a more aggressive appearance.
*Substantial weight savings over stock unit.
*Rattle-free fit.

Cons
*Overall loss of horsepower and torque.

Parts
Rear muffler section, center resonator, connector pipes
Price: $1,786
Installation time: Four hours

Notes
The loss of power from this exhaust reinforces our feeling that this car is already factory-optimized. The stock exhaust featured bizarrely shaped tubing that appeared more like organic intestines than metal pipe. Knowing BMW, we're sure it was that way for good reason. In hindsight, we should have fitted the 330i with SuperSprint's entire exhaust system including it's laser-cut, port-matched headers and sport cats. Even more performance might be possible with software optimized for use with this particular exhaust.

Given its fine quality and fit, we would not hesitate to use this system on our own car.
